Interview:Firm Official’s ZACH BRUCE…
I’ve loved it since I was a kid. I was at a point in high school where I was performing at assemblies and it was just adding fuel to the fire. After high school I went to college for a minute but decided to do music and so it all just started from there.
-What artists influence your music?
Boyz 2 Men taught me how to sing.I try to understand their harmonies and their style.I listened to Stevie wonder and Brian McKnight,I pretty much grew up on music where you can really feel what their saying. And even R.Kelly [laughs] because of the way he writes it just crazy.
-How did you get discovered?
Actually, when I was younger I was part of a group called ‘As One’ and we used to perform together here and there and I would always see other artists and one day there was a lady named Chokolate that was performing, but I felt like her backup singers were taking away from her and so I offered to be her backup singer and then I met Jake one and he wanted to work with me. And then I started doing hooks for Pinder & D.Black. Then one day I came to the Studio and I saw GMK, so I started to work with him.
-As a new artist to the industry, what do you think is going to be your biggest obstacle?
Well to be honest the obstacle is trying to find someone that really feels your music.I want to have a career; I don’t want to just have one song to blow up. I want to set the standard and I want to set it regardless.
-Do you only perform R n’ B
I consider myself,pop,hip-hop,neo soul.I’ve been doing hooks for a lot of different artist. I love all different types of music, but I’m not going to do a certain type just because someone wants me to.I’m a music lover.
-Who are you currently working with at the moment?
Right now, we’re really trying to go hard on my album. But I’m working with
J.Pinder on his new album and I have something going with GMK and also Young Starr.
-When we look at the music industry; specifically Rn’B and we look at the top artists that are making music videos, records, winning awards, and having songs played on the radio like artists such as Mario, Trey Songz, J. Holiday, Usher, Chris Brown…they all seem to sound the same in some sort of way. How are you going to make your music sound like Rn’B, but also not sound like the mainstream artists that we hear in the media today?
A lot of the times when I listen to the newer artists I just don’t feel it. I want to be the everyday person that talks about the everyday struggle.I want to write about the problems that everyday people go through.I want to touch people, that’s what’s going to make me keep doing it.I want to connect with my fans. it.I just like to write about real situations.
-What can we look forward to on the album?
Well I mean, honestly the thing that I know the most about is the interactions with the opposite sex. I’m going to sing about relationships and different things that have happened in my life. If I’m sitting around with the boys and someone starts talking about something, sometimes I think ‘okay, that could be a song’ so it’s also about things that my friends have gone through relationship wise. Theirs going to be a lot of upbeat songs its not going to be a slow Cd. I feel there are at least two songs on the CD that you’re going to be able to connect.
-What have you learned thus far being in the industry?
First of all you have to humble yourself. You can’t do it by yourself. I tried to do it myself, and it wasn’t easy. I wouldn’t have made it on the radio with out Jake one,GMK and J.Pinde.You have to accept help.I could do this for free.Get that foundation from people and take risks
Well there you have it folks,Zach Bruce is the next big thing! His album will be releasing Winter of ‘08 or early ‘09,so be sure to look out for that.In the mean time, check out his latest single “Be With You”.And don’t forget the support by calling 1-877-889-JAMZ to request to hear it.
